Overcoming Mounting Data Challenges with an Experienced Data Contractor

  • September 6, 2023

A major eCommerce retailer rapidly disrupting the vitamin, nutrition, and supplement space was facing considerable operational challenges as a result of its rapid growth. Sprawling data siloes, mismanaged data, and ill-informed reporting highlighted a dire need for a resource with the experience and expertise to help the company avoid the data and technical pitfalls that face many digitally-native start-ups. Our Client engaged BCTG to help diagnose the challenges facing the organization and identify the right-fit resource to manage the mounting data obstacles and provide a foundation for future growth leveraging a data-backed, analytical organizational approach.

Business Challenges

Fragmented, siloed marketing data existed in both third-party vendor systems and unstructured environments, and sales data was divided across two separate third-party vendor systems, making it ineffective and unable to be leveraged for decision-making or planning. Financial and customer data was also disparate across three separate systems, preventing the organization from gaining a holistic and clear understanding of the business and customers. These unstructured, fragmented data siloes led to inaccurate or outdated reporting, creating distrust in the data and preventing informed, data-backed decision-making. Data processing costs in Snowflake were already high and the team lacked recourse in monitoring or mitigating undue costs and unnecessary spend. Finally, the company lacked a singular data extraction tool to allow for more agility and flexibility in leveraging the data.
