How to Set Your Recruiters Up for Success

  • January 24, 2023

Whether working in-house or through a staffing agency, recruiters play a critical role in sourcing top talent. In order to set your recruiters up for success, you need to ensure that the team is able to deliver the best of the best. Locating, screening, and vetting candidates is not a quick process, and implementing a sense of consistency along the way can help streamline and strengthen the process. For any recruiter, providing top-notch candidates and reliable results is the end goal.

Below, we outline some best practices in order to set your recruiters up for success.

Set Goals and Track Your Efforts

For any team, setting goals is expected. In this case, let’s say the goal is to bring in one new hire each month. Based on past data, it typically takes finding 20 qualified candidates and conducting eight interviews to land a well-suited hire. Therefore, in order to achieve the goal of one new hire per month, your team may set an additional goal to identify at least six qualified candidates each week. However, setting smaller goals should not be used to measure a recruiter’s ability but rather to act as stepping stones in reaching the greater goal. Tracking your efforts through metrics and KPIs, then, will simply be a means to highlight the team’s progress and achievements. With set goals, the team can stay on track and hold each other accountable while working towards a common objective.

Enact a Full-Proof Process

Most recruiting teams consist of several individuals working in tandem, and having an organized and unified process can help create consistency and reliability. For example, the process may go as follows: First, understand the needs of the client, or your business, and then create an accurate, detailed job description. Post the job description online while formulating a list of prospective candidates in your existing talent pool. At the same time, begin searching for additional qualified candidates. Next, begin screening and shortlisting candidates. Finally, put the candidates through a few rounds of interviews before selecting the best of the best. While recruiters must remain agile and versatile to changing considerations, having a structured timeline to follow is extremely helpful.

Promote a Supportive Environment

Above all, one of the best ways to set your recruiters up for success is by providing a supportive environment. Ensuring that you are available for your team to answer questions or provide guidance at any and all times is not only good practice, but it also proves how dedicated you are to their success.
